George Everest didn’t want the mountain named after him, he worried that local speakers couldn’t pronounce or write “Everest.”

A paraglider was sucked into a storm for over 40 minutes, passed out and reached a height of 32,000ft higher than Mount Everest.

Mount Everest is covered with so much trash, now the Nepalese government requires each climber to carry with them 8 kgs of waste while descending the mountain. This includes human excrement, empty cans, abandoned tents, etc.

The bodies of people who’ve died while climbing Mount Everest are often left and used as landmarks by other climbers. It’s estimated that over 200 bodies are on the mountain.

The summit of Mount Everest is made of marine limestone. Meaning, it was once part of the ocean floor (an estimated 470 million years ago).
